Ecstatic Experiences, Direct Spiritual Experience and the Dark Side of Spirituality Direct Spiritual Experience is a more subtle and different form of what is known as religious ecstasy, but it is not the form of religious ecstasy that is a trance-like state frequently accompanied by visions, hallucinations, and physical euphoria.
